Boswell Cottage, 55 Ayr Road

 The family of Samuel and Mary Manderson lived in Ayr Road by the 1891 census. No house number given until the 1901 census

From 1901 until his death in 1922 the occupant was baker William Gillespie and family.

George Connell the builder was there until his death his 1963

Carco, 65 Ayr Road

 Built by or for Provost Thomas McCaughie  between 1901 and 1905 He is living  there in 1905 but the house isn't recorded as Carco but it is next to Ingleside which is no 67 and occupied by Thomas Buck. He died there in 1907. His widow, Jessie Buck, lived there until her death in 1932. Jessie was the sister of her next door neighbour Thomas Buck.

John Donaldson the fishmonger was there by 1935 valuation roll. His address was there in 1961 when he died in Ballochmyle Hospital.

Georgeville, 23 Ayr rd

The name Georgeville was first noted in 1907.

The house was built by John Ballantine as a house and photographic studio.  In 1869 he leased land at 23 Ayr Road, Cumnock from the Marquess of Bute of 1 rood 18 poles 26 yards of land, on part of which his Photographic Studio was erected. He occupied this site until his death in 1891. 




Another photographer Wilhelm Hess took over the studio when John died but he lived in Ayr. He owned a studio and garden in Ayr road in the 1895 and 1905 Valuation Rolls.

Then the Rodger family. Madge Rodger was born in January 1907 in "Georgeville". Her father James Rodger was a nurseryman.
